A Few Quinoa Nutrition Facts for Your Diet

If you are trying to maintain a healthy diet, you should give quinoa a shot.  This tiny seed is one of my favorite ways to eat clean.  I first learned about quinoa when I saw a quinoa recipe in Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean Diet Cookbook.  She immediately sold me on the health benefits of quinoa, but I wasn’t so sure about how it was going to taste.  Still, I was committed to turning my diet around so I decided to give it a try.  I am happy to report that quinoa has been a major part of my diet ever since!

Any time I can get my children eating a healthy food and not complaining feels like a win. The nutritional profile of quinoa really packs a punch! The slow burning carbohydrates are low glycemic, which is the type that most health experts recommend that you eat. Additionally, quinoa is rare in that it offers a complete protein source.  Unlike most grains, all eight of the essential amino acids are present.  Quinoa is also a great source of fiber.  It has 5 grams of fiber in a single serving.  If you like black beans, try a black beans recipe with quinoa and you will meet all of your fiber needs in a one meal.

Quinoa is one of the most versatile foods you will find, so you can enjoy it at any time of day.  I love to experiment in the kitchen and have found that quinoa works well in place of just about any grain.  I have used it in place of rice, couscous, amaranth and even pasta!  I love to eat quinoa in the morning as a warm cereal or toasted on top of yogurt – it is a great way to start the day! I also love a cold quinoa salad.   If you get a gluten free cookbook, you are sure to find many great quinoa recipes.   Why not give quinoa a try today?
